Five hikers applied to climb Snow Mountain on August 4 and were originally scheduled to descend on the 10th. However, due to heavy rains brought by Typhoon Lekima, a major landslide occurred at the 28K mark of the Daxue Mountain Forest Road 230, blocking their path. The five hikers were stranded on Forest Road 230 and, facing insufficient food supplies, urgently sought help from the Shei-Pa National Park Headquarters. Rescue teams from the Dahu Branch of Miaoli County Fire Bureau and the Shei-Pa National Park Police have been formed and set out on an emergency mission the afternoon before last. They are still conducting search and rescue operations in the mountainous area.
It is understood that these five hikers were led by a leader surnamed Yang and had applied to the Shei-Pa National Park Headquarters to climb Snow Mountain. They entered the mountain on August 4 and planned to descend on the 10th. Unexpectedly, when Typhoon Lekima hit, the five attempted to descend via Forest Road 230 of Daxue Mountain but encountered a severe collapse at the 28K point of the road, which blocked their exit route, leaving them trapped in the mountains.
Due to insufficient food supplies, the five hikers urgently sought help from the Sheiue Management Station of the Shei-Pa National Park Headquarters at around 2:00 p.m. on the 11th. The Sheiue Management Station then reported the situation to the Dahu Branch of Miaoli County Fire Bureau and the Shei-Pa National Park Police, who formed a rescue team and immediately set out to search the mountains.
It is reported that due to the heavy rains brought by Typhoon Lekima, multiple landslides of varying sizes occurred along Forest Road 230, making progress for the rescue team difficult and often requiring detours. The rescue team set out the afternoon before last, spent the night in a mountain hut, and resumed their mission at around 6:00 a.m. yesterday. They are still searching for the stranded hikers in the Forest Road 230 area of Daxue Mountain.
