In Hualien, apart from breathtaking mountain and forest scenery, waterfalls, and streams where you can enjoy adventurous stream tracing, there are also exciting mountain training activities like rock climbing and rappelling. Hongqing Mountain Villa in Shoufeng Township, Hualien County, is equipped with a rock climbing wall, paintball field, and more, making it a great spot to continue your adventure after stream tracing.
The areas for mountain training rappelling and rock climbing are in the same block, with the entire structure about three stories high. For rappelling, first put on your leg harness, helmet, and other gear, climb to the rooftop, secure the rope, and you’re all set—then follow the instructor’s demonstration to experience the cool, dramatic descent reminiscent of the Flying Tigers in Hong Kong dramas.

▲ Keep your legs straight and descend slowly step by step; if your posture is wrong, your face might hit the wall, so be careful.

Rock climbing relies on technique and strength. First, plan the easiest route in your mind and observe the size of each rock hold—this will make your climb much more efficient. Even though your energy may be halfway drained after the morning’s stream tracing challenge, the subsequent rock climbing still gets your adrenaline pumping. With the instructor holding the rope behind you, try your best to conquer this wall.
