World’s Largest A380 Singapore Airlines National Day Special Livery – Sticker Area Equals 9 Badminton Courts

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Singapore’s founding, Singapore Airlines will unveil two specially painted A380 aircraft, featuring giant Singapore national flag designs on their fuselages. The first and second A380 commemorative livery planes will take to the skies in early June and July 2015, respectively. The special liveries will remain until the end of 2015, during which time the aircraft will operate on routes between Singapore and Beijing, Hong Kong, London, Mumbai, New Delhi, Shanghai, Sydney, and Zurich.

The A380 is the world’s largest passenger aircraft. The Singapore national flag designs painted on both sides of the fuselage measure 10 meters in height and 47 meters in length. In addition, the engines will also feature the official “SG50” logo for Singapore’s 50th anniversary. According to Singapore Airlines, the printing materials used for this livery alone amount to 720 square meters—approximately equal to the area of 9 badminton courts.

In addition to the special livery campaign, Singapore Airlines has also launched various activities to celebrate the anniversary, including charity flights, frequent flyer mileage reward programs, charity runs, and galas. For aviation enthusiasts, limited-edition items such as specially painted model aircraft and 50th-anniversary overnight kits are also available.

1. The large Singapore national flag-themed livery uses special printed decals, with each aircraft consisting of 50 individual decals.
2. Printing the livery decals takes five days, requiring round-the-clock work to complete.
3. A total of 12 rolls of decal material were used, each measuring 1.2 meters by 50 meters.
4. The total decal material area is approximately 720 square meters, roughly equivalent to the area of 9 badminton courts.
5. The decal material used could cover the surface of 56 double-decker buses.
6. Before applying the livery decals, 12 staff members spent seven working days removing the original Singapore Airlines fuselage design.
7. The aircraft required 10 staff members to spend one full day repainting the exterior white, without any interruptions.
8. The decal application process takes approximately eight days to complete.
