Denmark pioneers the world’s first “vertical forest entry” – skywalk capable of handling 10,000 visitors

How to strike a balance between nature conservation and tourism appeal? Denmark is setting a unique example.The Treetop Experience skywalkis set to open in 2018. This circular walkway takes visitors deep into a protected forest in a way that leaves no trace and does not disturb wildlife.

According to the UK’s Daily Mail,this tall tower is located in Gisselfeld Klosters Skove, about an hour’s drive from the capital Copenhagen. Designed by architecture firm EFFEKT, it offers people a completely new way to experience the forest—not horizontally, but vertically—revealing different forest landscapes at varying heights. The walkway stretches approximately 700 meters in total, and the timber used is sourced directly from the nearby forest, allowing it to blend in seamlessly.

This is likely the only tower in the world that lets visitors enter the woods in such a special way. However, the walkway is divided into two levels: an upper level that passes through older parts of the forest, and a lower level that traverses areas with younger trees.

The walkway is expected to accommodate up to 10,000 visitors at a time and will officially open to the public in spring 2018.
