In recent years, southern Taiwan has seen a surge in tourism resources, with various star-rated and business hotels popping up across the city. When visiting Kaohsiung, what kind of hotel offers both great value and a relaxing, vacation-like feel in the city? There’s an art-themed business hotel just one stop away from the new Kaohsiung performance venue, Weiwuying, offering highly convenient transportation, privacy, and comfort – definitely worth a try.

Located near the MRT Jhigongyuan Station, the Citadines Kaohsiung Zhongzheng opened in early March last year. It emphasizes integrating art into the guest room experience and is just a 3 to 5-minute walk from the MRT station. Like other Citadines locations in Taipei, it boasts a design-focused space, but the Kaohsiung Zhongzheng branch uniquely combines clever spatial design with artistic elements. Public relations representative Alice mentioned that the hotel collaborates with performing arts centers such as Weiwuying to provide accommodation for visiting artists and occasionally showcases related art and cultural creations.

During the reporter’s stay, a piano for performances was placed in the lobby, along with the Citadines-branded rental car at the entrance – both very appealing to younger guests. The entire lobby space is spacious. The lounge area includes a reading and listening room where guests can freely select books and music to enjoy in their rooms, creating a cozy, home-like atmosphere distinct from the bustling surroundings.

With room sizes of around 8 ping (approximately 26–28 square meters), Citadines in the city certainly holds its ground in competitiveness. The bathrooms feature German-brand fixtures, rooms are equipped with private sound systems, mattresses offer medium-firm comfort, and sound insulation is excellent. The rooms are designed with bright wood tones and make full use of natural light. Though not overly flashy or unique in style, the hotel does prioritize comfort, making it suitable for family stays.

For dining, the “Veggie Life Cafeteria” at the Citadines Kaohsiung Zhongzheng, which specializes in vegetarian cuisine, is also worth trying. It uses locally sourced produce and carefully selected fresh, low-mileage ingredients. In the breakfast selection, there is a dedicated “vegetarian” section featuring simply seasoned vegetable hot dishes. The restaurant environment also caters to international guests by offering dishes from various cuisines. This level of diverse dining provision is rare among typical business-oriented design hotels.
