Three low-carbon homestays let you experience Green Island diving and eco-immersive travel

Green Island is home to many low-carbon, eco-friendly homestays that encourage guests to bring their own toiletries, towels, utensils, rent electric scooters, and more. Here are three such sustainable stays: Blue Bay Homestay, Green Sea Castle Homestay, and GREEN520 Enchanted Forest Homestay. Some even offer diving services or electric scooter rentals, allowing you to enjoy your trip while contributing to environmental conservation.

1. Blue Bay Homestay
Blue Bay Homestay owner Chen Xinquan (Brother Quan), who is also a diving instructor, says: “Diving is my profession and passion. Now I’ve opened a new homestay that combines both, offering an all-in-one service. Each room’s wall art is named after local marine life, such as angelfish, bamboo sharks, seahorses, blue tangs, flying fish, clownfish, whales, and orcas.”

The room designs showcase Brother Quan’s creativity. The layout ensures cross-ventilation, with scenic views in every room—mountain views at the back and expansive sea views at the front. Brother Quan smiles and says, “Our sea view here is incredible—you can even see Taiwan’s Central Mountain Range (K8)! The Central Mountain Range and Coastal Mountain Range are all visible, it’s stunning.” For those wanting to dive, Brother Quan can also serve as a guide. The homestay offers discovery diving courses, allowing even beginners to experience the joy of diving under his guidance.

2. Green Sea Castle Homestay
Green Sea Homestay has been operating on Green Island for over six years. Owner He Zhizhong (Brother Zhong) says he worked and studied away from the island for a long time before returning to live there. Brother Zhong shares, “Opening a homestay on Green Island has been my dream—I’ve planned it for years.” He’s also a diving instructor and, after realizing his dream step by step, opened Kuda Diving Center earlier this year to serve more diving enthusiasts.

Brother Zhong says he simply loves Greek-style architecture, which inspired the homestay’s blue-and-white Mediterranean design. The room options are also diverse, including double suites, multi-person rooms, and backpacker dorms. Simple bed sales cater to travelers exploring Green Island on their own.

3. GREEN520 Enchanted Forest Homestay
The family-friendly, rural-style Enchanted Forest Homestay is a fairy-tale-themed countryside retreat opened in 2014 by JJ and Lily. Named after their opening date—May 20th—it’s also a green, low-carbon eco-homestay. The homestay displays the love story of JJ and Lily, as well as postcards and notes left by many visitors. Travelers come from around the world and gather in the first-floor living room to share stories around a table. JJ mentions that repeat guests often return, which deeply touches them.

The living room corners are decorated with fairy-tale characters like Snow White and characters from *The Wizard of Oz*. It’s also a child-friendly homestay. Owner Lily also talks about finding a more complete set of children’s cups. The rooms feature rural, fairy-tale-themed dolls and color schemes. Books in the first-floor living room are available for guests to read. Even returning late at night, the warm glow of the homestay lights guides travelers home, creating a cozy atmosphere. Besides standard accommodations, Enchanted Forest Homestay also offers diving bookings, aligning with guests’ hiking and diving itineraries, along with electric vehicle rentals and natural ecosystem tours.

4. Haiyun Homestay (Mom Lin’s Home)
Run by Teacher Lin and Mom Lin, this local Green Island homestay is operated by a couple deeply passionate about the island’s ecosystem. After years of research, Teacher Lin is nicknamed the “Green Island Dictionary” online for his endless knowledge about the island’s culture, history, and environment, offering visitors rich insights into eco-immersive travel.

Semi-retired Mom Lin and Teacher Lin still serve guests on the island. Teacher Lin says, “We’re both semi-retired now. If you want to book a room, be sure to call ahead to check if we’re around.” They provide clean, home-like accommodations that make guests feel welcome.
