The Xiahai City God Temple celebrates its birthday with the festive sounds of drums and gongs, bringing back the traditional temple fair culture of Dadaocheng!

The Xiahai City God Temple is a famous tourist attraction in Taipei and a revered place of worship for devotees. To celebrate the temple’s birthday on June 29 (lunar May 14), the Taipei City Department of Information and Tourism organized a series of birthday celebration activities in June, inviting the public to experience traditional temple fair culture and visit unique shops with various styles along Dihua Street.

Due to ongoing renovations at the temple, this year’s birthday celebration does not feature the traditional parade, but a variety of exciting activities are still taking place.

June 13: A birthday market themed around the fashion of Dadaocheng in the 1920s and 1930s.
June 14: “The City God Sails a Dragon Boat — Tracing Dadaocheng’s Roots,” reenacting the historical journey of the City God crossing the sea to Taiwan.
June 29: The highlight event, “The City God’s Birthday Banquet — Music and Art at Qinyuan Garden,” will feature exquisitely carved ceremonial fruit displays and an array of auspicious delicacies, throwing a lively birthday party for the City God.

To get there by public transport, take the MRT to Daqiaotou Station, exit from Exit 1, and walk for 3 minutes to reach the Dihua Street shopping district for a nostalgic journey through history, culture, and traditional faith. For more details, please refer tothe Taipei Tourism website.
