4-meter-tall flower lanterns light up Moon World – Kaohsiung’s “Tianliao Fantasy Moon World” Debuts

The annual “Tianliao Fantasy Moon World” series of events has returned this year, not only continuing last year’s theme but also drawing inspiration from the spirit of Aomori Nebuta Festival — one of Japan’s three great northern festivals — to create the “Summer Solstice Moon Worship Festival.” The event features five major themed activities and will run from now until November.

Tianliao Moon World is famous for its “badland” terrain and has long been a popular tourist destination in Kaohsiung. This year’s “Tianliao Fantasy Moon World” features a 4-meter-tall “Demon Wolf Disturbing the Moon” lantern inspired by the Japanese Nebuta Festival. The parade includes taiko drum performances, jump dancers, spirit walkers, Nebuta floats, and night patrols. Elaborate costumes paired with specially choreographed dance moves create a uniquely themed summer festival, inviting the public to step into a magical carnival.

The Kaohsiung City Tourism Bureau stated that the “Tianliao Fantasy Moon World” series of events will take place on weekends during full moons. Upcoming highlights include the August 1 “Twilight City” Wolf Howl EDM Party, August 29 “Mystery Moonlit Night” Monster Forest, September 26 “Moonlight Fantasy” Magical Comic World, and November 28 “To Youth” Badlands Rock Moon Festival.
