Tokyo Ranked First, Taipei 22nd in 2017’s Top 10 Safest Cities Globally

With global instability on the rise—especially over the past five years marked by frequent terrorist attacks—many travelers often worry about the safety of their destinations before setting off. While terrorist attacks are unpredictable, there may be more control over other aspects.The Economistrecently released its list of the world’s 10 safest cities in 2017. This survey evaluated “digital security,” “health security,” “infrastructure security,” and “personal security,” with a maximum score of 100.

This survey provides valuable reference for travelers,especially as four Asian cities ranked within the top 10 in this evaluation, achieving high scores. Taipei scored 80.7, placing 22nd. Delhi, India, scored 62.34 to rank 43rd, and Bangkok, Thailand, scored 60.05 to rank 49th.

10. Zurich, Switzerland – 85.2 points
9. Hong Kong, China – 86.22 points
8. Stockholm, Sweden – 86.72 points
7. Sydney, Australia – 86.74 points
6. Amsterdam, Netherlands – 87.26 points
5. Melbourne, Australia – 87.30 points
4. Toronto, Canada – 87.36 points
3. Osaka, Japan – 88.87 points
2. Singapore – 89.64 points
1. Tokyo, Japan – 89.8 points
