Purple Crow Butterfly Season is Here!

Hongye Park in Guanziling is one of the richest areas in Taiwan for purple crow butterfly ecology. Since 2009, efforts have been made to create a butterfly-friendly habitat through ecological education programs and activities with conservation groups and schools, including the planting of nectar plants such as highland Lantana, which serves as a vital food source for purple crow butterflies. These efforts have cultivated an ideal environment for butterfly gatherings, with up to 114 species of butterflies currently observed. The purple crow butterfly is one of the world’s two major migratory butterfly species, wintering in the warm southern butterfly valleys and migrating north in spring to breed.

The “Butterfly Playground” centers around the purple crow butterfly and takes place every Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM for seven consecutive weeks starting July 11 at Hongye Park in Guanziling, Baihe District. The Lingding Information Station of the Siraya National Scenic Area also offers a “Guanziling Hot Spring Town Stroll” event every weekend, scheduled from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM every Sunday, departing from Dacheng Hall Plaza. Additionally, the Lingding Information Station hosts a “Kite Painting DIY” activity every Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM between July 11 and August 23.
