The terraced fields at Jian Shan Lake in Shimen District were constructed using volcanic rocks from Yangmingshan and have a history of over a hundred years. After being left uncultivated for many years, they have been revitalized with the support of the government, working together with dedicated local farmers who planted cosmos flowers, creating a different kind of rural vista.

The Shimen District Office stated that in order to revitalize farmland and help the community expand the area of non-toxic farming, cosmos flowers were specially planted in the terraced fields of Songshan Community this year. In addition to creating scenic beauty, this also helps improve soil quality for planting“Millennial Rice”next year.

The community’s terraced fields, which are currently covered in blooming cosmos flowers in rich, vivid hues until the end of July, offer the best time for flower viewing.The Shimen District Office warmly welcomes visitors to the Songshan Community. You can walk to the “Three Visits to the Thatched Cottage” viewing spot beside the Land God Ridge Trail, built by local farmers, to take in the layered, picturesque terraced fields of the Songshan Community, making it a great spot for sightseeing. You can also visit nearby attractions such as Qing Shan Waterfall, Jian Shan Lake Trail, and Land God Ridge Ancient Trail for exploration, and combine your trip with a one-day tour to Bai Sha Bay and Fu Ji Fishing Port.

Drive to Taiwan Route 2 (Taipei toward Keelung direction), turn right onto Provincial Highway 17, continue for about 4.9 km past the entrance to Qing Shan Waterfall Trail, then drive another approximately 1.5 km to reach the flower field location.
