Biking into the Military Academy: Catch a Glimpse of the Beauty of “Whampoa Lake”

The Whampoa Lake at Kaohsiung’s Military Academy, rarely seen by outsiders, now has the chance to reveal its true beauty. On September 6, the Kaohsiung City Sports Bureau and the Kaohsiung Cycling Association jointly organized“Fengshan District Cycling Joy Ride – The Dakotas Double Lakes Tour”, starting right at the Military Academy. With an expected participation of 8,000 riders, it aims to become the second-largest cycling event in Taiwan.

The Whampoa Lake at the Military Academy boasts beautiful scenery, but due to military restrictions, it has long been known yet seldom seen by the public. This event specially includes Whampoa Lake in the cycling route, giving participants the rare opportunity to admire its beauty, which is the highlight of this activity.

The event starts from the gathering area of the Student Activity Center at the Republic of China Military Academy, cycles around Whampoa Lake once, then continues through Fengshan’s commercial district and historic sites, loops around Clear Lake, and finally returns to the finish line via a planned route. The entire course is about 20 kilometers, taking approximately one hour to allow participants to enjoy the beauty of Fengshan along the way.

Considering the complex road conditions in Fengshan District, the event is limited to 8,000 registrants. Currently, just two days after registration opened, over 3,000 people have signed up, showing enthusiastic response.
