As one of Japan’s three most famous gassho villages, Shirakawa-go Gassho Village’s most anticipated event every year is the winter illumination. To help travelers plan their trips in advance, Shirakawa-go has released the 2016 winter illumination schedule on its official website, giving visitors the chance to admire the nighttime charm of this World Heritage Site amid a silvery-white landscape.
The 2016 winter illumination in Shirakawa-go Gassho Village kicks off on January 16, with a total of seven evening illumination events taking place on the 23rd, 24th, 30th, and 31st, as well as on February 7th and 14th. The illuminated areas include the Wada House, Myozenji Temple, the western side, Kannamachi, and the area near Shimo-Goso. Illuminations will take place from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.
