The Songs of Dawu Mountain: Pingtung Indigenous Grassland Music Festival, Free Performance on August 1

The music of Dawu Mountain will resonate from the valley. The 7th Taiwan Indigenous Choral Grassland Music Festival will take place on August 1, Indigenous Peoples’ Day, with the hope of inspiring tribal members to uphold their cultural legacy and offering audiences a laid-back, joyful experience running on the grass.

Pingtung County has been organizing the “Taiwan Indigenous Choral Carnival” since 2009, with the grassland music festival using song to express reverence for Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Held at Taiwu Elementary School within the Wulaluzu Community in Taiwu Township, Pingtung, the event hopes to encourage participants and tribal members to appreciate the beauty of this land and immerse themselves in the enriching influence of tribal culture.

The goal is to create a boundary-free stage where audiences can become performers. The grassland music festival centers around the theme “Senasena-i Let’s Sing Together!”—envisioned to be as gentle as the wind from the nearby Dawu Mountain, offering a relaxing, joyful atmosphere where you can run freely on the tribal grass and share the musical inspiration brought by all performers. The event begins at 6:00 PM on August 1 and offers free open admission.

This year’s invited performing groups include Shaniniyao Jhufunlufen, who recently released a new album, Pingtung Yage Choir, Amis Gaguen Band, Gili Weaving Music, A-VON, Muse Stepping Mud, Chamake ’Falawulo and the Taiwu Elementary School Traditional Songs Troupe, Sang Meijuan and Feather Percussion Art, among other outstanding performance troupes.
