The Most Taiwanese Cafe – Qiuhui Library
Arriving here from Taipei Metro Dongmen Station feels like stepping into a river of history. While sipping your coffee, it's as if you’ve entered a time tunnel, reminiscent of nostalgic scenes from a retro movie. The owner, Lin Yuf, has spent hundreds of millions on these collections. He once said, “If you can make anything look distinctive, people won’t think you’re foolish!” To make visitors feel more connected, tables are thoughtfully placed with illustrated informational materials. The shop also houses shelf after shelf of Taiwanese history books. Even the National Museum of Taiwan History has approached the owner to acquire thousands of artifacts. It’s truly a representation full of Taiwanese flavor.

Taipei’s Most Dance-Worthy Cafe – Dancing Cafe
Located next to Zhongshan N. Rd. near Taipei Metro Shuanglian Station, the “Tsai Jui-yueh Dance Research Institute” is Taiwan’s first historic site dedicated to dance. Right beside this heritage building is this dancing cafe. A large expanse of green lawn, twirling roses—this is home to dancers. On a busy urban afternoon, the lattice windows glow softly under low lighting. Here, with a cup of coffee and a warm pancake, what you taste is a sense of lightness.

▲ Though mystery books carry a sense of suspense, Detective Bookstore opts for a minimalist style that avoids any sense of oppression.

Taipei’s Most Mysterious Cafe – Detective Bookstore
Take the Taipei Metro to Zhongshan Station to reach Detective Bookstore. Here, you can order a coffee and enjoy an afternoon in a uniquely designed chair. The owner, Tan Rui, is a former journalist. Detective Bookstore specializes in detective fiction and mystery books. He says that while genres like poetry and essays have higher acceptance in Taiwan’s literary scene, detective and mystery novels not only represent imagination within the broader culture but are also a “world language, just like a smile.”
