The popular "Scolded Egg" at Luodong Night Market — drizzled with Thai sauce, it's incredibly delicious!

Scolded Egg?? What a unique name!! There’s actually an interesting little story behind it!! But let’s not talk about the story just yet — let’s focus on this delicious and indulgent “guilty pleasure” food first!! Originally operating successfully on Yicheng Road in Luodong Town, the "Scolded Egg" had already gained some fame. After being featured on TV, it became so popular that the shop was bustling with customers every day, making it a well-known fried snack spot in the Luodong area. Now, they’re making a big move and officially entering Luodong Night Market to let even more people enjoy their tasty offerings!! The owner, worried that people might not be able to visit the main store, has set up a stall at "Luodong Night Market Stall 1073" to sell limited-edition items — you can enjoy them here every day!! On the day we visited, we got to try a bunch of amazing fried snacks. Let’s take a look!

This is the night market branch of Scolded Egg, located right across from Zhang Xiuxiong’s Rice Noodle Shop, which is only open during the day!! Because night market stalls are quite small and easy to miss, Scolded Egg has gone for a Chinese-style design. In addition to the door panel with strong traditional Chinese flair, the lower part of the stall also resembles the design of a traditional Chinese medicine shop!!

Since the night market stall is small and preparing ingredients is a bit tricky, they’ve selected some classic dishes to let visitors from afar taste the local flavors!! As for friends in Yilan, the Yicheng Road location offers a wider variety of items to satisfy even the pickiest eaters!!

We arrived around 4:00 PM, just as the shop was getting ready to open, but it didn’t take long before a crowd started gathering

Lemon Pork Rib Triangles~~ These tangy and sweet pork rib triangles have a fragrant chewiness that gets better the more you bite into them

This is the famous Scolded Egg!! Turns out it’s actually fried century egg, but when you add dried bonito flakes, pickled vegetables, and Thai sauce, it becomes incredibly addictive!! And you just can’t stop eating one after another

The fried century egg has a slightly crispy outer layer, but the inside is as smooth and creamy as a soft-boiled egg — the multi-layered texture is really tasty

Scallop Squid!!

The squid is cut into small cubes and then deep-fried!! The cross-section actually looks a lot like scallops, and the texture is chewy yet tender — it really does taste a bit like scallops!! Fresh and delicious

Lava Cheese Chicken Cutlet!! It’s both chicken cutlet and cheese — just thinking about it makes your mouth water!! The cheese melts over the delicious chicken cutlet!! When you take a bite, the cheese goes straight into your mouth along with the chicken!! Utterly delicious!!

Stringy Cheese Chicken Cutlet — turns out the lava cheese was on top of the chicken cutlet, but the stringy cheese version has the cheese inside!!

It really does string!!

This is the main store on Yicheng Road in Luodong Town!! It was pouring rain that day, so I didn’t get a chance to take a front photo!

However, the main store offers a much wider selection than the Luodong Night Market branch. If you want to try all the delicious offerings of Scolded Egg, you really have to come to the main store!! I heard the main store is a must-eat late-night snack for guests at nearby homestays

These pork intestines are fried really well — the texture is tender and easy to bite into, and adding a bit of pepper makes them incredibly tasty

Thai Spicy Chicken Cutlet

It’s truly a case of 1+1 being greater than 2!! Thai pickled vegetables paired with Taiwanese-style salt-and-pepper chicken — what a creative combo, and so delicious!!

Clear Creek Shrimp — these crispy fried creek shrimp are really addictive

Golden Dice Beef — the texture is chewy and tender, and every bite is full of beef aroma, with juices almost dripping from the corners of your mouth. Also super delicious!

Overlord Squid — fried squid is another best-seller at these fried snack shops!! Here, it’s not only deliciously fried, but when paired with Thai spicy sauce, the flavor is taken to the next level!! Absolutely charming!

Angel Red Shrimp

Ha, thanks to my friend doing the peeling, we just got to eat!! Ah, so happy~ A little moment of joy in life!

We weren’t satisfied with just the fried chicken and shrimp, so we went for the bigger angel red shrimp, which was even more satisfying. And it’s crispy-fried—honestly, I wanted to eat the whole thing, shell and all!!

Luckily, this time I came with friends to enjoy it. The table was full, we ate happily, and had an even better chat!!
