People in Pingtung are in luck — the first national sports center in southern Taiwan will begin trial operations on August 1.

Another new sports center has been completed. The Pingtung City National Sports Center officially opened on August 8, making it the first national sports center in southern Taiwan.During the six-day trial operation period starting August 1, all facilities except the swimming pool will be open to the public free of charge.This will allow residents to experience the joy of sports.

The Pingtung City National Sports Center is located next to the Zhongzheng Swimming Pool in Qianxi Park. It is a four-story steel structure building with a height of 27 meters and a total floor area of approximately 8,382 square meters. The interior is divided as follows:
First FloorAdministrative offices, restaurant, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, public spaces, and inline skating rink
Second FloorGym, martial arts classroom
Third FloorMulti-purpose aerobic exercise classrooms, billiards room, table tennis room, and children’s playroom
Fourth FloorBasketball courts, badminton courts, and multi-purpose courts, featuring comprehensive equipment
The exterior design incorporates the landscape of the Wanan River and green spaces, connecting with existing facility routes while adopting sustainable green architectural principles.　　

To maximize space utilization and operational management efficiency, the Pingtung City National Sports Center is managed by a commissioned private operator. Each facility has its own pricing policy, with some fees based on course schedules and classroom availability. Basketball court off-peak hours (without air conditioning) cost NT$1,400 per hour, while peak hours cost NT$2,000 per hour; badminton courts are NT$200 per hour per court during off-peak times and NT$300 per hour during peak times; table tennis and billiards rooms are NT$100 per table per hour, and the inline skating rink is NT$30 per hour.

For the swimming pool, students and children under 18 enjoy discounted tickets, seniors aged 65 and above receive senior citizen discounts, and children under 3 can use the indoor and outdoor pools for free, but must be accompanied by a legal guardian who has purchased a ticket. Indoor pool admission is NT$110 per entry, with discounted tickets at NT$80 and senior tickets at NT$50; the outdoor pool is NT$60 per entry, with discounted tickets at NT$40 and senior tickets at NT$30.

The trial operation runs from August 1 to 6. The center will be closed on August 7 for inspection of all electrical and mechanical systems in preparation for the official opening on August 8. On the opening day, all areas except the swimming pool will be free to use. Starting August 9, all services will be fee-based.
