Taiwan Baking & Gourmet Fair Kicks Off; Traditional Category of Pineapple Cake Competition Won by Yichuan Honpo

The three-day 2015 Taiwan Baking & Gourmet Fair – Creative Desserts Carnival & Taipei Pineapple Cake Culture Festival grandly opened today (July 31) at Taipei World Trade Center Hall 3. In addition to exhibitions by numerous renowned bakeries, the event also hosted a pineapple cake competition and a nougat (Taipei Cake) competition on the same day. The traditional category of the pineapple cake competition was won by Yichuan Honpo, taking home the gold award, while the creative category gold went to Juncheng Honke.

The 2015 Taiwan Baking & Gourmet Fair – Creative Desserts Carnival & Taipei Pineapple Cake Culture Festival kicked off with the classic “Pineapple Cake Competition” and “Nougat (Taipei Cake) Competition” on the first day of the exhibition. Nearly 40 well-known bakeries from across Taiwan participated in the contests to compete for the championship title. The traditional category of the pineapple cake competition was won by Yichuan Honpo with the gold award; its filling is made from fresh pineapples, combined with the store’s unique homemade crust, delivering an outstandingly crispy, sweet taste that won over the judges. The creative category gold was claimed by Juncheng Honke’s Lemon Sonata Pineapple Cake. This year’s nougat competition also saw intense competition, with the traditional category gold going to the well-known法兰司 bakery, while the creative category (Taipei Cake contest) gold was awarded to Yuhuaxing Foods.



To capitalize on the Mid-Autumn gift box market, many renowned stores are offering various special deals at the exhibition. Sunshine 99 is running a “Buy 2 Get 1 Free” promotion on earthy pineapple cake gift boxes daily from 11:00–11:30 (limited to 100 per day), while Franz Bakery is offering a limited-time deal of three Vienna milk breads for 120 NT dollars at the venue. Yuhuaxing has a limited-time offer of two boxes of shaved mung bean cake for 150 NT dollars, and Xiangshuai Cake is selling its Xiangshuai pineapple cakes at a special price of 220 NT dollars per box.
