"Star of Taiwan-Matsu" Makes Maiden Voyage: Passenger Volume Doubles as Matsu Tourism Enters a New Era

It made its maiden voyage from Keelung to Dongyin to Matsu that same evening at 11 PM, doubling the maritime passenger capacity between the two locations and marking a new milestone in Matsu tourism development. Like the currently operating "Taiwan-Matsu Ferry," the brand-new "Star of Taiwan-Matsu" will run one round trip per day in the future, with a sailing time one hour faster than the current ferry—approximately seven hours per trip.

New passenger and cargo ferry costing over NT$1.327 billion"Star of Taiwan-Matsu"held its handover ceremony at Keelung Harbor on the afternoon of the 12th, hosted by the Maritime and Port Bureau, and made its maiden voyage from Keelung to Dongyin to Matsu that same evening at 11 PM, doubling the maritime passenger capacity between the two locations and marking a new milestone in Matsu tourism development. President Ma Ying-jeou personally attended the 12th handover and maiden voyage ceremony of the Star of Taiwan-Matsu. He stated that he was pleased that the "Star of Taiwan-Matsu," which the people of Matsu had been looking forward to for over 20 years, had finally been delivered and begun service, enabling easier travel between Taiwan and Matsu for the residents there.

The Star of Taiwan-Matsu took four years to build, weighs 5,000 tons, has four decks, and can carry 580 passengers, 380 bunks, and 200 seats (including 66 short-haul seats), along with transport capacity for 28 small cars, 3 medium-sized buses, or 1 tour bus.
