The debut solo exhibition of rising female artist Ruan Yutian opens for a limited time in Tamsui on the 4th

A rising female artist with multiple identitiesRuan YutianHer first solo exhibition opens on the 4th at theTamsui Satisfaction Art Centerand runs for a limited time, with a tea reception held on the afternoon of the 5th from 14:00–17:00. She revealed that by chance she picked up the paintbrush from her childhood memories, unexpectedly winning the favor of fans, which led to her first solo exhibition. It is reported that from September 4 to 26 at the Tamsui “Satisfaction Art Center,” her first solo exhibition features 20 fashion paintings inspired by travel memories, six of which were pre-purchased by buyers before the exhibition.

Ruan Yutian was previously a marketing and PR professional for luxury brands such as Chaumet and Versace. In the past two years, fascinated by European travel, she has published two European travel books and is also a travel columnist for the"Eastern TV Travel Cloud"and various magazines, making her a rising female artist with multiple identities.

Ruan Yutian said her connection with painting can be traced back to before kindergarten. As a child living in Taitung, she frequently visited temples with her Taoist grandparents. Back then, her grandfather donated money to build a temple, and she spent whole days in the temple watching craftsmen carve colored glass and cut glass, deeply fascinated. She loved sitting beside them all day, imitating their drawing of dragons with paper and pen, sketching mythical beasts and mascots daily, observing how they used blades and pliers to cut colored glass and arrange lifelike religious figures. Listening to the elders tell religious stories through beautiful sculptures, that's when she fell in love with drawing.

She said she started learning to paint at age 10 and won the Asia First Prize at the World Children's Painting Exhibition. After graduating from the Industrial Design Department of National Taiwan University of Science and Technology and teaching briefly at Fuxing Arts School, Ruan Yutian lived in the UK and Spain for several years. Although not working in pure art, nurturing in foreign cultures allowed her to rediscover the paintbrush with uniquely “travel-inspired memories.”

Ruan Yutian has traveled to nearly 90 cities around the world. She believes these life experiences have greatly influenced her creations—especially the humanities, arts, and traditional costumes from different countries, each with their own aesthetic pursuits. The climate, air, humidity, and temperature also shape her memories of these places, making each recollection dreamlike and forming who she is today.

“Traveling is seeing the world from another perspective. The more angles you stand from and the deeper you go, the smaller you feel, and the greater your capacity for ‘beauty’ becomes,” emphasized Ruan Yutian. During her time in the UK and Spain, she explored how traditional culture evolved into modern fashion trends with designer friends from artistic families. She hung out with musician friends in Soho, attended performing arts shows, and observed how sculptors, photographers, and artists in Europe each had their own aesthetic principles and interpretive philosophies. That period of life abroad profoundly influenced the expression of her artworks.

As for what inspired this exhibition, Ruan Yutian said that when she released her second book, “Mediterranean Highway Diary,” late last year, she discussed with the publisher what to give as gifts to readers attending the book launch. Thinking it was year-end, she decided to create 12 works inspired by the Mediterranean and print them as a calendar to give away—something both heartfelt and practical. She ended up painting 12 pieces in one go, making the book launch day also the unveiling of her artwork. With 12 paintings displayed around the venue, many attendees showed interest, leading to this solo exhibition. Ruan Yutian said, “It all happened naturally, without overthinking, just a series of chance encounters.”
