A 360-degree View Dining Experience at Beitou Incineration Plant – Go Green and Embrace Eco Living

Traveling from downtown Taipei to Beitou or Guandu along the Zhuomei Expressway, you’ll spot a colorful chimney in the distance — that’s the Beitou Incineration Plant, Taiwan’s largest. The plant features a 360-degree view restaurant where you can gaze at Taipei 101 in the night, adding a romantic touch to your evening — making it a great date spot. Additionally, in May this year, it became a certified environmental education facility, offering students a chance to learn about sustainability through plays, games, and tours. It’s an ideal holiday destination for families.

The Beitou Waste Incineration Plant boasts the world’s only revolving restaurant integrated with an incinerator chimney. Renovated and reopened in early 2015, the 120-meter-high “Star-Picking Tower” revolving restaurant offers sweeping daytime views of the Guandu Plain, and spectacular night scenes. With 360-degree unobstructed views of iconic Taipei landmarks such as Taipei 101 and the Grand Hotel, it has become a popular spot for New Year’s Eve fireworks viewing and a romantic destination for couples on Qixi Festival.

Powered by the thermal energy generated from burning waste at the incinerator, the revolving restaurant is built around the chimney and completes a full 360-degree rotation in about 90 minutes. Even if you’re not dining, visitors can head to the observation deck atop the chimney for panoramic views — from the Yangmingshan, Guanyinshan, and Datun Mountain ranges in the distance, to the confluence of the Tamsui and Keelung Rivers up close. Watch the sunset over Guanyinshan in the evening, or admire the tranquil beauty of the Guandu Plain under the night sky, taking in Taipei’s one-of-a-kind scenery.

In May, the Beitou Incineration Plant also became a certified environmental education site, offering specially designed theme-based courses tailored to the plant’s features. These include exploring recyclable materials through drama, using sensory activities and games to understand reuse and give new life and value to materials. Students can also learn how to make compost at home, visit kitchen waste cooking facilities, experience the joy of compost gardening, and more.
