Australian tycoon builds replica of 'Titanic II' with maiden voyage from China to Dubai in 2018

If the Titanic were to set sail again, would you dare to board? The cruise ship project led by Australian billionaire Clive Palmer has been progressing well according to its spokesperson, despite some delays, and is likely to embark on its maiden voyage in 2018.

According tothe Belfast Telegraph,，"Titanic II"has a hull design that is essentially the same as the original ship that sank in 1912 and was built by a Belfast company. However, to comply with modern maritime regulations, the ship’s width has been extended by 4 meters, and the hull will be welded rather than riveted. The global marketing director stated that the new Titanic, like 21st-century cruise ships, features modern evacuation procedures, satellite control, and radar systems.

It will be 270 meters long, 53 meters high, and weigh 40,000 tons. With a total of 9 decks, it includes 840 cabins that can accommodate 2,400 passengers and 900 crew members. Facilities include Turkish baths, a swimming pool, and a gym. The ship is currently being built by China's state-owned Jinling Shipyard, and its 2018 maiden voyage will not follow the original Titanic’s route from Southampton to New York, but instead sail from Jiangsu, China to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

Although the ship has not yet been officially unveiled, some people have expressed willingness to pay around NT$30 million to be on its maiden voyage.
