Around the Luodong Night Market at noon！ Super popular Li A-Tian Special Meal and traditional taro ice

Originally planning to eat at a ramen shop near the Luodong Night Market, but since it only opens in the evening, we missed out. We casually wandered around the area and happened to spot our target — Ship Lai Taro Ice & Milk King. So we looked for a nearby lunch spot to solve the problem. Li A-Tian was packed with people during lunchtime — that’s the one, Up!!

There are several snack shops and buffet restaurants nearby, but the busiest one is Li A-Tian, which happens to be near Ship Lai. That way, you can enjoy both a proper meal and sweet desserts or ice treats in one go.

Li A-Tian Special Meal $75

It was my first time trying this meal, and the content was really unique. So Mr. A chose this option — the side dishes were very generous, and the tray used for dine-in was quite upscale. Unlike typical bento shops that use boxes to save time, this tray made it feel like we were having Japanese cuisine. The color scheme and plating looked delicious too. The main dishes were fish, braised pork, and marinated egg — getting three main dishes in one meal was great. The braised pork seemed to be a local favorite.

Chicken Leg Rice $75

The kids all opted for chicken leg rice. The chicken legs were pre-marinated and then deep-fried — the skin was super crispy and tasty. The white rice was fluffy and separate, and the side dishes were clean without being watery. It made for a satisfying full meal.

The next highlight is visiting Ship Lai Ice Treats, which is just next door and not far away. You can also grab a drink here first.

The interior of Ship Lai is quite clean, probably because it only opened in 2013, and the equipment is fairly new. There are seating areas in the corridor by the entrance. You order first inside the shop, and the staff will bring your order to your table.

Before having lunch, we got two drinks to go — one was their signature Juice Taro Shaved Milk, and the other was the kids’ favorite Bubble Tea Three Brothers. I usually love taro shaved milk, but after comparing, I still prefer the Northern Gate Mung Bean Shaved Ice a bit more.

After lunch, we continued with dessert. The shop offers many ice cream flavors that you can freely mix and match. Except for Black Sesame Nut and Durian, which are $30 each, you can choose any two other flavors for $40 per cup.

We ordered mango, milk, longan, bubble milk tea, and taro. My top recommendations are longan and bubble milk tea. The taro flavor is also good — it has an old-school taro ice feel. If you’re around the Luodong Night Market area, come give it a try~
