The 2015 Guandu Nature Installation Art Festival kicks off on the 20th—free admission on opening day!

Now in its tenth year, the 2015 Guandu International Nature Installation Art Festival will hold its opening carnival at Guandu Nature Park on September 20, with free admission that day. In addition to showcasing large-scale installation artworks by domestic and international artists, the event will also feature a series of family-friendly activities such as nature art DIY, ecological challenge games, Wildscreen International Nature Film Festival screenings, a small farmers' market, and grassland concerts. Make a weekend trip to enjoy the wonderful time immersed in nature.

The management office of Guandu Nature Park stated that this year’s focus is on the Guandu Wetlands. The Tamsui River system, which flows through Taipei, is a tidal river influenced by the tides, creating a section where saltwater and freshwater mix with the ebb and flow. This environment fosters a rich estuarine ecosystem and culture. Therefore, this year’s theme is “Tidal Sensation,” aiming to awaken the public’s awareness of the tides ebbing and flowing within the city, and to reflect on how humans can enjoy the abundant ecology of this river.

The natural installation art exhibition runs from September 20 to December 31. This year, seven domestic and international artists participated in creating the installations. From September 1 to 18, five pieces were created on-site at Guandu Nature Park, and one each at Shizidao Wetland and Shizidao Head Park. Members of the public volunteered as art helpers to assist in collecting, transporting, and processing natural materials during the creation process.

Among them, Taiwanese artist Li Kuizhi combined the imagery of rivers to create the work "Tidal Language," which integrates natural wind, kinetic energy, and wood. Another Taiwanese artist, Kang Yazhu, wove a geometric landscape inspired by Eastern embroidery using natural fibers, conveying the breathing of the tides and the concept of natural sustainability in her piece "Lichen Weaving Process." French artist Fiona Paterson's work "Tidal Moon" emphasizes the rich life brought to the region by the tides, while also highlighting the importance of recycling and the potential harm waste can cause to water resources and land. Other participating artists come from the United States, Italy, Australia, and India.
