I've known about this Chongqing Soy Milk shop for quite a while, because I saw it before when buying drinks at the tea house. I knew their fried egg crepes were pretty famous. After trying the ones on Dalong Street not long ago, many netizens recommended this place, so I came to give it a try and compare it with the Dalong Street version XD

This place is located in an alley behind Bao'an Temple, which is also a traditional market.

As soon as I walked in, I saw them making fried egg crepes, so I stopped to watch XD First, they put the dough in.

It takes shape very quickly!

Then they crack an egg in.

Then they place the crepe on top of the egg.

The most special part is here—after flipping the egg to the top, they add preserved radish, which is quite different from the fried egg crepes on Dalong Street that have basil added. It seems like the taste will be quite unique!

Then they fold it up and it's ready to serve. It’s pretty quick!

The fried egg crepe here costs 30 NT$, which is 5 NT$ cheaper than the one on Dalong Street. I also ordered a baked sesame pancake with youtiao and a cup of iced soy milk.

Iced Soy Milk (Large, 20 NT$)
The soy milk here goes down really smoothly, and has a strong bean flavor. Most importantly, there’s no smoky taste, which I really like.

Signature Fried Egg Crepe (30 NT$)
The fried egg crepe here is pre-sliced, whereas the one on Dalong Street is eaten whole. Also, the egg in the crepe here is half-cooked, while the one on Dalong Street is fully cooked—I personally prefer the half-cooked one.

Eating the crepe with the egg coating is really delicious—the crispy crepe gains a smooth texture, and the preserved radish adds another kind of crunch, enhancing the mouthfeel. However, they put a bit too much salt and pepper on top; I thought it was a little too salty. Next time I’ll ask the boss to go easy XD Compared to the Dalong Street version, I prefer the one from Chongqing Soy Milk.

You can also add this special sweet chili sauce—it’s not very spicy but adds extra flavor!

Baked Sesame Pancake with Youtiao (30 NT$)
The baked pancake with youtiao is served warm, so it’s a bit chewy and requires some effort to eat. I think the version from Dalong Street tastes better XD

Old K’s Tips: I’ve tried both fried egg crepe shops in Dalong, and I prefer this one at Chongqing Soy Milk. It’s also cheaper XD Although the baked pancake with youtiao isn’t as good as the one from Dalong Street, if you’re craving great baked pancakes, I’d recommend going to Zhicheng Soy Milk Shop. But taste is subjective—maybe some people prefer basil over preserved radish, in which case the Dalong Street version might be better for you!Give both a try XD
