Store manager Zheng Huishan says the Royal Rice Mountain Feast Homestaywas built in the 26th year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty, making it a century-old building.Originally a century-old rice shop, it once operated as a rice factory. Mr. Song, the fourth-generation owner, has infused new ideas into its management, transforming the old rice mill into a homestay. The walls of the storefront have been given an antique feel, adorned with stories of the shop’s century-long cultural heritage.Visiting here feels like stepping into a time corridor.

Since it was originally a rice mill, the first floor also displays century-old farming tools, along with a refurbished rice mill. These tools are part of the family’s personal collection from earlier times and have now become attractions for visitors, almost like a century-old cultural exhibition hall where you can learn about rice culture through old farming implements.

The homestay itself faces the mountain and has three floors in total. The first floor is the exhibition and sales area, while the second and third floors are for lodging, with a total of four rooms—two double rooms and two four-person rooms. All four rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows offering beautiful mountain views. The double rooms offer views of the Central Mountain Range, the Coastal Mountain Range, and the Hualien-Taitung train. The four-person rooms overlook the expansive Highway 9.

Guests staying here can also book a rice mill tour, which can be arranged when the staff are not busy with work. There is also a rice-planting experience camp. Zheng Huishan explained that the Hualien-Taitung region has two rice planting seasons per year, with harvesting usually taking place around late June to July, and planting occurring in August and September. The Royal Rice Mountain Feast Homestay rents a piece of land from local farmers to let guests experience planting rice in the fields. Registration times and availability can be checked on the official website.
