Visiting Switzerland’s “Top of Europe”—the Jungfrau—is a dream destination for many. Riding a century-old railway through glaciers to reach the summit, where the sight of snow is truly unforgettable. But if you want to get even closer to the Jungfrau region, you don’t have to limit yourself to just visiting the summit station,on the descent via the Jungfrau Railway, there’s also a hidden trail where you can walk along the mountain ridgeline. It takes about an hour to walk and is a ridge trail known only to a few adventurous travelers.

Located at an altitude of 2,320 meters, Eigergletscher Station is a mandatory stop when descending via the Jungfrau Railway. The Jungfrau Eiger Walk is approximately 2.5 kilometers long, offering breathtaking views as you traverse the mountain range. Yin Weidi, the Taiwanese representative of Jungfrau Railways, recommends that visitors don’t necessarily need to complete the entire trail. “Even those with less stamina can walk a short section and then turn back, still getting the full experience of walking along the ridgeline.”
Most travelers experience mild symptoms of altitude sickness after descending from the Jungfrau. In such cases, a cup of hot chocolate helps with recovery. Eigergletscher Station has the only restaurant in the area, and some visitors choose to disembark here, enjoy the mountain view, and sip a Swiss hot chocolate. The Jungfrau Eiger Walk begins right from this station.

Although the total length is 2.5 kilometers, you can choose your own actual walking distance. From a small path near Eigergletscher Station, you descend a slope along a gravel trail, passing many stone towers built by hikers—these serve as the starting point for heading toward the mountain ridgeline. From a distance, the trail may appear to be only about 30 centimeters wide, but it’s actually around one meter wide, making it quite safe. Walking here in early autumn in Switzerland feels incredibly relaxing, with the Jungfrau Mountain behind you and layers of majestic peaks stretching out ahead—it feels like walking through a dream.
