Mixed bathing culture makes foreign tourists unaccustomed to it. It is no longer necessary to be naked when bathing in hot springs in Japan.
Last updated 2026-09-23 — One of the most refreshing ways to travel to Nagano Suwa City is to stay at a hotel near Lake Suwa, preferably a hot spring hotel. It is a great pleasure to enjoy the lake while soaking in the bath. But now some hot spring operators here have changed the traditional naked bathing method and issued bathrobes to tourists, hoping to put them on before taking a bath.

到长野诹访市，最令人心旷神怡的一个旅游方式就是在诹访湖附近的旅馆落脚，最好是温泉旅馆，边泡汤边赏湖，是一大乐事。但是现在这里已经有温泉业者改变传统的裸汤方式，并发给旅客浴袍，希望在泡汤前能够穿上。
日本有很多特殊的文化，其中一个是男女裸体混浴，这个文化事实上满让许多旅客不习惯的。根据traveler网站，由于到日本的旅客越来越多，而业者已经改变规则，一来是因为旅客无法接受裸体混浴；二来是因为越来越多的日本人觉得混浴尴尬。
事实上，今年三月日本国家旅游局就已经制作指南，指导温泉业者如何处理国外观光客的需求，像是有刺青的旅客以前是不能泡汤的，而现在业者会希望旅客把刺青用特殊胶带覆盖即可入内。
不过穿浴袍入内的这个规定，目前并非全部实施，每个旅馆规定略有差异。
