According to a survey by the Taipei City Government’s Department of Information and Tourism, among international visitors to Taiwan from January to June this year, approximately 92.06% visited Taipei City, amounting to around 4.98 million trips. Among the top spots visited were Taipei 101, night markets, and the National Palace Museum. For many Asian travelers, the most memorable aspect of Taipei was its “food.”
In recent years, the number of visitors to Taiwan has repeatedly hit new highs. Taipei City, with its diverse cuisine, convenient transportation, and rich attractions, is a must-visit destination for those traveling to Taiwan. The Taipei City Department of Information and Tourism conducted a “Survey on the Consumption and Travel Trends of International Visitors in Taipei City” for the first half of 2015, revealing that 90% of international visitors traveled to Taipei.

From 2013 until now, Taipei 101, night markets, and the National Palace Museum have consistently ranked as the top three most visited attractions by tourists. Compared to previous years, this year saw the first appearance of Yangmingshan, Maokong, Xingtian Temple, and Longshan Temple among the most popular attractions. For visitors from China, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and Malaysia, the most impressive thing about Taipei was its “food.”
Director of the Department of Information and Tourism, Chien Yu-yan, stated that over the past three years, whether in terms of overall visited attractions or the most favored ones, only Longshan Temple has consistently been featured in the old city area. In the future, efforts will be made to promote the development of the old city area in conjunction with Taipei being named the World Design Capital in 2016 and hosting the World University Games in 2017. This includes areas such as Dadaocheng, Dalongdong, and the area around Cisheng Temple. Next year, the department plans to market a series of cultural tourism routes in the old city area—including Monga, Beimen, and Dadaocheng—in key Asian cities, aiming to revitalize local industries and create a more distinctive image of Taipei, striving to show the best of Taipei to all of Asia.

Regarding the favorite “food” of visitors, the Department of Information and Tourism will continue to promote Taipei’s cuisine to international tourists. This year, items such as bubble tea and chocolate mung bean cake have been taken abroad multiple times for local people to sample, attracting tourists to come to Taipei and experience its authentic local flavors.
