The theme of the scenic area—camellias, also known as camellia japonica, are evergreen shrubs or small trees of the Theaceae family. Historically called "sea pomegranate," they are also known by other names such as Yuminghua, Naidong, or Mandala, and are categorized into East China camellia, Sichuan camellia, and late camellia. There is an extremely wide variety of camellias, making them one of China’s traditional ornamental flowers and one of the “Top Ten Famous Flowers,” as well as one of the world’s prized floral species. Originally native to Central and Southwest China, they are now cultivated all over the world. Thanks to decades of dedicated cultivation by camellia experts, their complex flower shapes and diverse colors rank them among the finest of all flowers. Camellia petals are bowl-shaped, either single or double, with prestigious varieties such as Eighteen Scholars and Six-Angle Big Red. They can be propagated by cuttings or grafting. Wellness teas made from camellias have therapeutic effects for conditions such as coughing up blood and coughs. Camellias are cherished in the global horticultural community for their elegant plant form, glossy dark green leaves, and vibrant, richly colored blossoms. Their flower language symbolizes loveliness, humility, and prudence. Their inner and outer beauty has inspired countless poets and writers to compose poems and essays in their honor.
