The Scripture Repository of Zhiguo Temple is located in Zhiguo Village, Xiecun Town, 12 kilometers west of the city. Constructed in the 14th year of the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty (1586 AD), it was historically known as a "famous temple in the Han region." The repository building measures 21.7 meters in length, 18.3 meters in width, and 12 meters in height, featuring a typical palace-style architecture. It currently houses over 3,000 volumes and 4,178 books of Buddhist scriptures, which were bestowed by the “Empress Dowager Cisheng Xuanning and Emperor’s Mother.” These are hand-copied versions of the authentic scriptures brought back by Xuanzang from India during the Tang Dynasty, serving as important historical materials for the study of China’s Buddhist culture and even that of Eurasia. The scriptures are bound in locally distinctive silk brocades in red, yellow, blue, and green, with diverse patterns and intricate printing. They are richly illustrated, combining text and image, and possess significant historical, scientific, and artistic value—making them truly rare.
