Lingguang Temple Scenic Tourism Area is located deep in the Nanhuashan Mountain. In 1042 AD, it was the dwelling place of Li Yuanhao, the King of the Western Xia Dynasty, and his beloved concubine Moyi. The temporary palace was built against the mountain, with pavilions reflecting on the water, upturned eaves and bracket sets, stretching for miles. During various instances of destruction over the years, the surrounding trees and forests were set ablaze, but the fires were extinguished by thunderstorms and heavy rain. Later generations built a temple here, naming it “Lingguang Temple” (Temple of Divine Light) after the miraculous divine light and the torrential rain. The area features five peaks standing in succession, shaped like a bridge, hence also called Five Bridge Mountain. There are also five springs, all crystal-clear and cool, gently flowing out from the mountain gate—clear, sweet, and rich in mineral content, making them natural mineral water. In 1081 AD, it was burned down by the Song Dynasty general Li Xian. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Lingguang Temple was designated as a natural forest reserve of Haiyuan County. Over 10 million yuan has been invested to plant larch, birch, and sea buckthorn trees on the mountain, covering a greening area of more than 100,000 mu. A 15-kilometer secondary asphalt road from the county town to Nanhuashan Mountain has been constructed, along with 15-kilometer gravel roads to Lingguang Temple and Shuichong Temple respectively. Currently, the Lingguang Temple scenic area boasts lush vegetation, mist-covered pine forests, and uniquely beautiful scenery. It has become an ideal destination for modern visitors to immerse themselves in nature, experience ecological tourism, and enjoy summer retreats.
