Little Potala
Located on the Zhongshan Mountain right in the center of Gyantse Town, this is a ruined palace that closely resembles the Potala Palace in appearance, though it is smaller in scale. According to local legend, at the time, the local ruler heard that the Potala Palace in Lhasa was incredibly magnificent, so he wanted to build a replica. He then sent artisans to carve the design of the Potala Palace onto a radish, and upon their return, they constructed a palace based on the model. However, it just didn’t look as grand as the original Potala Palace. It turned out that by the time the radish model was brought back from Lhasa to Shigatse, it had dried up, shrunk, and become deformed. Nowadays, a bustling large-scale market is located beneath the ruins of this palace.
