The towering St. Sepulchre's Church, built in 1100, is one of the largest and best-preserved round churches in Northampton. Other historic landmarks in the area include Northampton Castle, established in 1084, the magnificent All Saints' Church, Northampton Cathedral, St. Mary's Priory, and numerous other religious buildings that quietly tell the city’s storied past. The Northampton Museum and Art Gallery houses the world’s largest collection of shoes, displaying over 12,000 footwear items from ancient Egypt to the present day, along with Italian art, ceramics, traditional shoe-making crafts, and local history. Nearby tranquil countryside scenes, scattered stone cottages, and traditional pubs offer great opportunities to experience the local culture.
Northampton is surrounded by many notable attractions. Shakespeare’s birthplace—Stratford-upon-Avon—is located about 60 kilometers to the northwest, Oxford is around 68 kilometers to the southwest, and the university city of Cambridge lies 75 kilometers to the east. The ancestral home and resting place of the late Princess Diana—the Althorp Estate of the Spencer family—is just 8 kilometers northwest of Northampton.
