Nantong Textile Museum

Nantong Textile Museum, also known as the "Textile Grand View Garden," is China's first specialized textile museum. It is situated near the Wenfeng Ancient Tower in the southeastern part of Nantong city, covering an area of nearly thirty acres. The entire complex consists of more than 10 buildings with traditional Chinese architectural styles.

The museum is divided into two main parts: the main building and the auxiliary building.

The main building features six exhibition halls. The front section is titled "Highlights of Chinese Textiles," which mainly showcases primitive hand-weaving tools, ancient textile technologies, traditional handmade textile products, and outstanding modern textile items. The rear section is called "The Development of Nantong’s Textile Industry," focusing on handmade homespun cloth, modern machine-based textile production, contemporary Nantong’s textile industry, and exemplary textile products.

The auxiliary building displays exhibits such as cotton fields, waterwheels, farmhouses, handmade textile dyeing workshops, cotton and cloth shops, and guildhalls. It also includes scaled-down replicas of the Dasheng Cotton Mill textile workshop founded by the patriotic industrialist Zhang Jian and the Textile Department of Nantong University. Through a combination of static displays and dynamic demonstrations, it reflects the textile-related economic, educational, and social aspects of urban and rural areas in the Nantong region at the beginning of the 20th century.

     Transportation

You can take Bus No. 7, the Haohe Scenic Area Special Line, to get there.
