The museum consists of an east and a west building. The east building is renovated from two historical structures, while the newly built west building covers a total area of 13,500 square meters. The City Museum adopts a “museum within a museum” concept. The west building houses the Exhibition Hall of China’s First Modern City, the Nantong Urban Planning Exhibition Hall, the Boutique Residential Exhibition Hall, and the Architectural Achievements Exhibition Hall. The east building will feature a Private Collections Exhibition Hall, a Full-Scale Miniature Exhibition of China’s First Modern City, and a Nantong Celebrities Sculpture Gallery. The ground floor of the west building is the “Exhibition Hall of China’s First Modern City,” which displays the development history of Nantong through scene restorations and highlights achievements in urban construction, industry, culture, and education of the “China’s First Modern City.”
The City Museum emphasizes participation, interaction, and accessibility. Utilizing audio, light, electricity, and multimedia virtual reality technologies, an Interactive Hall has been established with eight multimedia interactive programs such as “A Thousand-Mile View of Nantong” and “Explore Nantong.” Each exhibition hall features over ten interactive elements tailored to its displays, including master plan model interactions and holographic imaging.
