Que’ergou Rock Carvings

Situated on the hills and cliffs of sandstone within Que’ergou, about 2 kilometers southwest of the Gongwusu Open-pit Mine and 4 kilometers southeast of the Haibowan Power Plant in Hainan District, Wuhai City. The carvings depict human figures, animal figures, and more. Animal Figure 1 shows two individual animals with their heads facing each other, and above the intersection is a large circle with a dot in the center of three concentric circles—its design is quite elegant. The author believes this rock carving embodies fertility worship, symbolizing the reproductive consciousness of animals. Animal Figure 2 is engraved on an isolated boulder, featuring images of sheep, horses, dogs, and what appears to be traces of a vehicle-related rock carving. Although the engravings are shallow, they are very clear. The human and animal figures show several animal individuals alongside a human figure, whose legs are spread sideways and bent upward from the knees, likely representing a male.
