Gaodun Lake

Introduction     Gaodun Lake is named after the several ancient Great Wall beacon towers that stand tall nearby. The tourist area is located on the southern edge of the Tengger Desert, 8 kilometers from the city center, and integrates sightseeing, leisure, vacationing, and entertainment. Covering an area of over 1,000 acres, the site includes a 400-acre lake, more than 200 acres of desert wetlands, 10 large and medium-sized luxury Mongolian yurts, and 10 various types of pleasure boats. It also features over ten tourism activities such as a water park, wildlife and plant viewing in the desert, desert surfing, and a hunting ground.

The ancient Great Wall, which has lain dormant for thousands of years, stretches like a yellow ribbon between the Zhongwei oasis and the vast Tengger Desert. Nestled in the embrace of this slumbering wall, the secluded Gaodun Lake offers visitors a chance to enjoy the tranquility and serenity of nature. Here, green grass, blue sky, yellow sand, clear water, and white seagulls blend naturally and harmoniously, creating a dreamlike “fairyland on the frontier.” The lake is home to over 30 species of birds, including wild ducks and swans. To the north, the lake borders the great desert, while its east, west, and south sides are surrounded by a grid of fish ponds.
