Old Mandalay Palace
The Old Mandalay Palace was originally built in 1857 by King Mindon of the Konbaung Dynasty. Situated in the northern part of Myanmar’s second-largest city, Mandalay, just south of Mandalay Hill, the palace is surrounded by a moat and features grand, imposing architecture that recreates the glory of the Konbaung Dynasty.

The Old Mandalay Palace was once destroyed during the fires of World War II. However, its sturdy walls, gates, moat, and the surrounding traditional Burmese wooden pavilions were preserved intact, serving as important references for the later reconstruction of the damaged sections. Today, the palace complex also houses structures such as a cultural museum, making it one of the most famous attractions in Mandalay.

  Admission & Opening Hours

The Mandalay Attraction Pass costs $10.

  Transportation

The palace is not far from the city center and is located south of Mandalay Hill. It can be visited together with Mandalay Hill, either by hiring a trishaw or renting a bicycle, at around 500 kyats.
