Taungthaman Lake is a pastoral body of water where boats are never in short supply, as it is home and livelihood for many fishermen. The small boats on the lake come in a variety of bright colors, with fishermen decorating their beloved vessels in lively ways. There are quite a few fishing boats on the lake, but fishermen often prefer to jump directly into the water and catch fish with their bare hands, splashing the surface with vigorous kicks. Of course, there are also swimmers in the lake—those playful children who swim and frolic with great joy. From time to time, groups of ducks can be seen swimming around the lake. They are not afraid of the fishermen and sometimes even swim up to the boats to look at the people onboard.
In the middle of Taungthaman Lake lies a small island, which visitors can reach either by crossing the U Bein Bridge or by boat. The island features pavilions where tourists can rest.
