Tropical Rainforest Nature Reserve

The dappled shadows of trees fall on the duckweed floating on the lake, while the occasional long cry of birds can be heard. Let’s step into the tropical rainforest and embark on a wonderful adventure. The Xishuangbanna Tropical Rainforest Nature Reserve is located within the jurisdictions of Jinghong, Mengla, and Menghai counties in Xishuangbanna Prefecture, southern Yunnan Province. Covering a total area of 2,854.21 square kilometers, its tropical rainforests, South Asian tropical evergreen broadleaf forests, rare animal and plant species, and the entire forest ecosystem are invaluable treasures. It is the world’s only well-preserved, large contiguous tract of tropical forest, attracting global attention. Situated at the southern tip of Yunnan, the Xishuangbanna Tropical Rainforest is the most intact tropical rainforest in China at such high latitude and altitude, featuring a globally unique “inverted” vertical distribution of vegetation. Over 5,000 species of tropical plants and animals thrive across nearly 20,000 square kilometers of land in Xishuangbanna, an awe-inspiring sight. Phenomena such as “one tree forms a forest,” the “king of flowers,” “hanging gardens,” and graceful peacocks are all part of nature’s exquisite masterpiece in Xishuangbanna—a vibrant taste of the tropics that can be fully experienced without leaving the country. Strolling through the Dai ethnic villages of Xishuangbanna, apart from the distinctive local customs, you’ll also find lush greenery everywhere.
