Saint John City

Saint John City
Saint John is situated on the northern shore where the Saint John River flows into the Bay of Fundy. It is the largest city in the Canadian province of New Brunswick and the second-largest city in the Maritime Provinces after Halifax, Nova Scotia. The city’s population has shifted over time from being predominantly of British Loyalist descent to being largely Irish, and Saint John is often regarded as the most “Irish city” in all of Canada.

Due to its long history of colonial rule, Saint John has a distinctly European character. Many well-preserved buildings are designated as National Historic Sites of Canada, including Fort LaTour (also known as Fort Sainte Marie), the Saint John City Market, and a total of 15 such sites that visitors can explore. The city boasts a diverse range of arts, cultural, and entertainment facilities, such as cinemas, theaters, concert halls, art galleries, and museums — including the New Brunswick Museum, the Saint John Jewish Historical Museum, the Saint John Floral Museum, and the Saint John Police Museum. With its strong traditions and multicultural background, Saint John hosts numerous conferences and celebrations throughout the year, attracting visitors from around the world.
