Introduction Located at No. 5 Taian Avenue, Heping District, it currently houses the Tianjin Municipal Committee and was built between 1919 and 1921. It was designed by American engineer Edison and Dallas of the British firm Thornton-Tomasetti. The building has a total floor area of 9,180 square meters and features a Greek Classical Revival style with a three-story mixed structure. It faces south and is oriented east-west, with a rectangular floor plan. The exterior is solemn and dignified, featuring a ramp in front, with four terrazzo classical flower stands on either side of the high stone steps. The outer facade on the first and second floors consists of 14 Ionic-order grand columns forming a 10-meter-high colonnade, slightly protruding at both ends, with pilasters used as corner decorations. The third floor has an entablature with a dentil cornice. The central part of the interior houses a hall that spans all three stories, supported by Ionic marble columns, whose capitals are made of copper plates with fine craftsmanship. The hall’s ceiling is semi-circular with a grid pattern inlaid with colored glass. The arches above are adorned with exquisite carvings.
