Near the cliff edge on the mountaintop sits the famous Huma Battle Memorial. The monument features a unique and deeply symbolic design, modeled after the ancient weapon “crossbow.” It has a pedestal over half a meter high with steps on all four sides. The main body of the memorial is a rectangular prism resting on the base, with two corners cut off from one side of the top, transforming the prism into the shape of a crossbow case. Atop this case, the tip of an arrow is visible. The entire structure resembles a drawn crossbow ready to fire. On the front of the memorial, the bold black characters reading “Huma Battle Memorial” were inscribed by Chen Lei, a veteran of the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army and former Governor of Heilongjiang Province. Above these black letters, a pattern resembling an ancient cannon is formed using black materials. The overall design of the memorial is simple yet solemn and dignified.
The Guest-Greeting Pine is a Korean pine growing at the summit of Xiaoheli Zi Mountain, clinging closely to the cliff. From a distance, one can see its solitary and proud stance at the edge of the cliff. Though not as ancient or robust as the Guest-Greeting Pine of Huangshan, it appears even more upright and graceful. Just as the Korean pine is praised as the “Beauty Pine,” the Guest-Greeting Pine of Xiaoheli Zi resembles a delicate maiden standing on the cliff, gazing toward the return of loved ones. The Guest-Greeting Pine is also located not far from the Huma Battle Memorial.
The Fox Fairy Cave is situated on the mountainside of the western slope of Xiaoheli Zi, about ten meters above the riverbank. It is a natural cave formed through long-term weathering of the mountain rock. The space inside is not large, with the lower parts of the cave walls covered in soil and rubble that have peeled away due to erosion. It looks like a very ordinary cave, showing no traces of artificial carving, which only adds to its mystique—locals believe it to be the dwelling place of the Fox Fairy. In northern Chinese folklore, there has long been a tradition of worshipping the Fox Fairy, who is regarded as a deity capable of resolving difficulties and granting salvation. People would pray to the Fox Fairy for healing, medicine, or peace.
