The Dajian Mountain Scenic Area belongs to the Jiangziliao Mountain Range of the Wufen Mountain Group, and its mountainside is most renowned for Cihang Hall. During the hike, visitors can stop by the Xiufeng Waterfall in the Cihang Hall area, making it a popular spot for hikers and day-trippers. After being renovated by the Xizhi City Government, the Dajian Mountain Scenic Area now features built stairways for hiking, lush plantings, and imported grass from abroad, creating vast, flat green lawns on the slopes. Coupled with uniquely styled rest pavilions and stone tables and chairs, the Dajian Mountain Scenic Area has quickly become the backyard garden of Xizhi.
To climb Dajian Mountain, you can start from Xizhi District by heading along Xiufeng Road and Qinqin Road to reach Tianxiu Temple, where the hiking trail begins. The entire Dajian Mountain Scenic Area stretches 4.2 kilometers. As you proceed along the trail, you will pass Longchuan Cave and Xiufeng Waterfall. Continuing further, you can ascend to the mountain top, where the panoramic views of Xizhi District and the surrounding mountain ranges unfold before your eyes. From there, you can continue along the mountain ridge to hike to Sifenziwei Mountain, and then descend via the road back to Xizhi.
Alternatively, you can follow Qinqin Road from Tianxiu Temple to Tiandao Qingxiu Monastery, where there is also a hiking path up to Dajian Mountain. The hike to the summit from here is less than 1 kilometer.
Dajian Mountain is a popular hiking destination on the eastern side of New Taipei. This small 460-meter-high peak bursts into a sea of cherry and azalea blossoms in spring. Well-maintained mountain paths and trails are lined with notable temples and waterfalls hidden in serene spots, while the grassy slopes resembling green carpets and rustic stone tables and chairs create a poetic landscape. Thanks to the development by the Xizhi District Government, Dajian Mountain has become an enchanting large-scale park.
Dajian Mountain gets its name from the many large rocks scattered across its summit. The origin of its hiking and walking trails dates back to the legendary Master Cihang from Cihang Hall at the mountain’s foot. After attaining enlightenment and passing away with his body remaining incorrupt, he was worshipped by followers as the Cihang Bodhisattva. The fame of Cihang Temple spread quickly, and the mountain’s night view adorned with cherry blossoms also attracts many visitors.
This has drawn many pilgrims to also start climbing Dajian Mountain. After extensive renovations by the Xizhi Township Government, long stone stairways were built up the mountain, lush flowers and trees were planted, and short turf was imported from abroad, resulting in vast, smooth green lawns covering the slopes. Together with the uniquely designed stone tables, chairs, and rest shelters scattered across the mountain, Dajian Mountain has transformed into the backyard garden of Xizhi. To climb Dajian Mountain, you can follow Xiufeng Road and Qinqin Road from Xizhi City to reach Tianxiu Temple, where the hiking trail begins.
