The rock formations in Yehliu mainly consist of thick-bedded sandstone dating back 10 to 25 million years, often appearing bluish-gray or yellowish-gray. Famous formations like mushroom rocks, candlestick rocks, and ginger rocks are found here. Three distinct layers of rock, along with tectonic movements and thousands of years of wave action and erosion, have created a variety of rare small-scale landforms.
