It is said that embroidery was introduced here in the 15th century by Venetian women who taught the skill, which has been passed down to this day. In 1481, Leonardo da Vinci visited the village and bought an altar cloth, which he brought back to Italy and presented to Milan Cathedral — the cloth is still preserved today. The silverware crafted here is vividly lifelike, and the silver jewelry is exquisitely made. Nowadays, Lefkara’s hand-embroidered crafts are famous both domestically and internationally, making the village a well-known tourist destination in Cyprus. There is also a folklore museum in Lefkara, which hosts folklore exhibitions during the tourism season from April to October each year, showcasing local hand embroidery and silver items. Visitors can learn about the area’s folk culture through these exhibitions.
