The temple was originally named Santang Church or Haiyun Temple and has a history of over 300 years. It belongs to the Linji school of Buddhism and is a spiritual lineage of Master Huikai from Huayan Temple’s Dalaotang Hall. Nengren Temple features four main halls: the Shuotuo Hall, Guanyin Hall, Ancestral Hall, and Zen Hall. In 1926, during the tenure of Abbot Nengliang, it transitioned from a family-run temple to a public monastery. Before the liberation, the temple had over ten resident nuns and a large number of followers, with incense burning year-round. Even today, on the first and fifteenth days of each lunar month, many worshippers visit to pray and burn incense. The temple also offers simple yet delicious vegetarian meals at a low price for visitors at noon.
