Members of the Zhou family moved to Fushan during the era of Emperor Gaozong of the Song Dynasty. By the 11th generation, they constructed the Zhou Clan Ancestral Hall and built the Yinglong Academy within it to provide a place for their children to study, encouraging the family to pursue diligence in learning. The Zhou family has historically produced many scholars, and even today, among the Zhou families in Fushan, there are two notable PhD holders such as Zhou Songbo.
The Zhou Clan Ancestral Hall was first built during the Song Dynasty, rebuilt in the 53rd year of the Kangxi reign in the Qing Dynasty, and later destroyed by fire during the Taiping Rebellion. It also suffered damage during the Cultural Revolution. In recent years, to restore the Zhou Clan Ancestral Hall and the Yinglong Academy, overseas Chinese raised 1.78 million yuan. Renovation began in 2006 and was completed in 2008. When visiting Fushan, be sure to stop by and take a look.
