Xiaomaqing Village, Xinyan Town

Xiaomaqing Village is situated 3 kilometers south of Yanzhou City proper, with 323 households and a population of 1,297. In 2008, it was designated as a tourism-characteristic village in Shandong Province. The village has a long history and certain origins; it dates back many years, and within the village stands a stone stele inscribed with “Record of Pagoda Construction by Fan Hong’en,” erected in the second year of the Tang Dynasty’s Shenlong era. The name “Maqing” first appeared on a Ming Dynasty tombstone. It is said that during the early Ming Dynasty, a military camp was stationed southeast of the village, surrounded by horse pastures with lush green grass, hence the village's name. It later split into two parts, with the smaller one called Xiaomaqing, in contrast to the larger Damaqing to the south. Over the years, Xiaomaqing Village has placed great emphasis on developing tourism, actively promoting the village’s economic and social progress. A village tourism development leadership group was established, headed by the Party branch secretary and composed of responsible officials from relevant village departments. Tourism development was given equal importance to overall economic growth, with coordinated planning and deployment, which significantly boosted the rapid advancement of local tourism and yielded remarkable results. The village was designated by the Yanzhou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government as a “One-Day Agricultural Tour” attraction of Yanzhou.

Leveraging its advantages, the village has focused on integrating with modern sightseeing agriculture. Xiaomaqing Village is adjacent to the Jining High-Tech Agricultural Demonstration Park. Building upon its status as a national-level agricultural tourism demonstration site, the park passed the national “AAA”-level tourist attraction inspection and acceptance in 2007. It houses 30,000 square meters of modern intelligent greenhouses with domestically leading equipment, 100,000 square meters of solar greenhouses, and a 6,000-square-meter large-scale flower trading market. The park consists of twelve functional centers, including the Biotechnology Engineering Center, Tropical Orchid Center, Exotic Fruits Center, Specialty Vegetables Center, Factory Seedling Center, Microbial Engineering Center, Fresh-Cut Flowers Center, and Soilless Cultivation Center. The demonstration area currently hosts eight major leading enterprises such as Shandong Lüjin Biotechnology Co., Ltd. and the Sino-foreign joint venture Yanzhou Jialong Industrial Co., Ltd., as well as over 30 specialized companies. It has introduced more than 800 high-quality domestic and international varieties, over 200 advanced agricultural technologies, and established cooperative relationships with more than 20 research institutions and over 30 experts from both China and abroad. Most of its projects have filled gaps in Shandong Province and Jining City. In 2007, the park received over 20,000 visitors from home and abroad, generating an output value of 600 million yuan. It serves as a powerful demonstration, radiation, and driving force, actively promoting both the visibility and tourism industry of Xiaomaqing Village.
